About Newport:

Newport is the home of the oldest Winter Carnival. There are skating, skiing, broom hockey and other competitions depending on the weather. Newport has over 6,000 residents and there is a very active Recreation Center that offers year round programs for any age group. Newport has a walking trail where two historic covered bridges remain from the days when the railroad owned the trail. There are several Agencies that provide in home care to residents, but Newport is considered rural and is under-served.

Currently, the Community Garden supplies fresh vegetables to six families that work in the garden and donate to the Hoyt Center. It would really help to have seeds that are non-GMO. Currently the seeds are donated by several area garden centers.

It would be helpful to have more residents involved in the garden, especially children. The more healthy food we can produce ourselves, the better off our residents will be.
