HEAL Community Case Studies

The HEAL NH Active Transportation Program has contributed to increased community investments in walking and biking infrastructure through grants made possible through an anonymous fund of the NH Charitable Foundation.
Our Case Studies report highlights:
1. Concord Complete Streets Policy
2. Salem - Friends of Salem Bike-Ped Corridor
3. Manchester Complete Streets
4. Littleton - Rail Trail

The goal of the Plan4Health Nashua coalition, which began in January 2015, is to advance street planning and design to support safe and accessible active transportation.

The grants were awarded to help communities identify and implement municipal strategies – such as adding bike paths, sidewalks, and farmers markets – to provide more choices for residents to eat healthy and be physically active. Special consideration was given to rural towns and urban neighborhoods with health, social, and economic disparities (factors that lead to higher incidences of obesity and chronic diseases).
